It is vitally important that you understand that you cannot use any acidic products on limestone which does make some cleaning jobs more difficult.

For Cement Staining. This is a difficult issue to resolve with a limestone because you must NOT use any acid based products. Cement residues are usually removed with an acid but you must NOT do this. You can use PowerClean diluted 1:3 with water to help remove cement. You will need to scrub with brushes, nylon pads or machinery (on larger areas). Be careful not to damage the stone by scrubbing too vigorously. Rinse well. Always do small test areas first.

For Efflorescence (white mineral salts that can appear on a stone as it dries) the same issues will be encountered as when removing cement residues from limestone because you cannot use acid. Fortunately, efflorescence is not often an issue on limestone. If required, you can use PowerClean diluted 1:3 with water to help remove efflorescence. You will need to scrub with brushes, nylon pads or machinery (on larger areas). Be careful not to damage the stone by scrubbing too vigorously. Rinse well. Always do small test areas first

For Mud you will find that PowerClean is very effective. A wet vacuum cleaner can be used to remove the cleaning solution and rinsing water which will do a much better job than using a mop or a hose.

For Algae use BioClean followed a few days later by Algerase. You will find a more specific article on removing algae by clicking here.

For Leaf and Plant Stains use BioClean.

For Bird Droppings use PowerClean first then treat any remaining coloured stains with BioClean. You will find a more specific article on removing Bird Droppings by clicking here.

To remove BBQ Grease and Oily or Greasy Food Stains use PowerClean.

To remove "Coloured" Food Stains such as Tea and Wine use BioClean.
